I love projects, but i barely ever finish them. I hope all your holidays were wonderful. Mine were great even though Christmas still didnt quite feel the same. I got a film scanner, which has made my year. I got around to scanning a few old negatives and I found  my photos from my roadtrip to South Carolina with the girls 3 years ago. I always pick very grainy film, I love it! As one could tell, this is me hanging out of a car window with my film camera.

My new project this year is to complete a “365project” a self-portrait a day for the year. I’m already struggling with ideas. butI’m hoping it’ll keep my brain thinking. Happy New Year!

Again, it’s been a while. And its been a quite a while since I picked up my Nikon for fun. I finished up my Wright’s Farm gig, finished up the wedding photos. Well, I still have to edit the photos from Wright’s. But I need a little break right? A break for socializing and a break from my brain. I’ve been on serious overload since last month with so much work to do at work and so much work out side of work. Does that make sense? Anyway. I thought I’d inject my blog entry with an excerpt from a fellow Blogger that kinda sums up my last month as well as hers,

I thought that was brilliant. I’ve met people whom I could never in a million years think of my life without, and I’ve met people whom I’ve realized I can live without and I’m better without. I love my friends. I hate “the game”. I’ve learned to not overthink. I’ve learned to just let it be.

I will get back to photographing and more documenting. Since my last post, I aged to 23, I was offered and took a job as a photographer’s second shoot for the spring, I met someone new and intriguing, I’ve photographed a dog show and sunrise to sunset and holidays, and i’ve discovered new music. I’ve been snowed in with 14 inches outside. I’ve talked everything out instead of holding it in. And finally, a close friend lost their mother and something so tragic can only teach us to appreciate everything and each other.

2010 is only 11 days away.

Long time no write. I feel like I say that a lot lately. I’m only down to two jobs right now. Doing the silly 830-5pm gig and J.Crew on the weekends. Keeps me busy and little bit sane. I’ve had a few distractions from real life which were all well and good for the meantime but I had to cut a few strings and get back to focus on photo work. Not exactly my own personal work, but getting ahead of the game I suppose.

The wedding was a great success, I booked a few more for next summer. And Thanks to a an old friend, Randy Apuzzo, a graphic designer that I went to high school with and graduated from my same college…he got me a photo gig with a big name from Rhode Island: Wright’s Chicken Farm.  I spent last sunday with them for a few hours shooting managerial portraits, product shots, and environmental. They have a massive restaurant/giftshop/bar in Harrisville, RI and a cow farm elsewhere. If you’re from the Rhode Island area, you’ve been there or heard of it. I will be back there next week to shoot a bit more when the function room is of use during a wedding.

The photo above is where a small portion of the restaurant is sectioned off for small functions, and some gift-ware. I loved the lighting, and the chicken artwork everywhere. The manager portraits were shot in front of the chicken painting on the right. Awesome right?

Hopefully this job will lead to something similar or bigger for CSherlock Photography. Got my watermark, my business card, my website underway. Things are looking up for me in the photoworld, I’m climbing the foodchain.

It’s my favorite time of year, hands down. I’ve barely picked up my camera lately, with 3 jobs its harder to put aside time. One day so far in this short autumn I shot around the house. The colors were out of this world. Now that fall finally came, there is snow in the forecast for the weekend! I want October back please. 

Short hello, I’m at the office currently, other than photoshopping perfumes and teddy bears, I discover some awesome music while sitting in my cubicle. Once volleyball coaching is done and I have more free time I will shoot more. I promise. 

Oh, and I’m slightly head-over-heels for my 35mm-f/1.8 lens. It’s the bokeh I’ve been waiting for

Just a quick blog-hello. Super craziness as usual! I finally landed a fulltime job! I’m photo editing full-time for a Photo/Advertising/Design Agency called Stebbings Associates. And I’m working with CVS/pharmacy and doing post-production for them. Good money, lots of hours and photoshop time. I’ve still got lots to learn! But I have finishing up coaching and such for another month. So three jobs thus far! I photographed Courtney and Aaron’s wedding last weekend and I’ve got a few booked for next summer. Super excited.

Back to topic, this photo is from a Greek Festival in Cranston, RI from about 3 weeks ago. It was like we landed on a different planet. The Greek church was beautiful, and the dress was outrageous, the food was amazing! Towards the end of the event there was dancing, the adults and the children had some time to dance and celebrate. I wish I knew more about the culture and the history, but my friend Greek friend Kassi was there to give me a bit of insight. Besides from the swarms of flies and mosquitos surrounding the food tents, everything was wonderful and I’m sure I stuck out like a sore-thumb with my pale skin and blue eyes, no worries though. Thanks Kassi for the photo opportunity!

Hey all, so I haven’t blogged in a bit. Life’s been a bit on the crazy side. But I’ve managed to photograph a whole lot of my own work in between the million jobs I’ve picked up.

I visited Waterfire for the about the third time in 10 years. I went when I was little the first year with my parents, once last summer with someone I was dating at the time and this last time this summer with my friend Megan. I always tried to stay away from it because its so intensely tourist-driven and I’m usually working at the mall those nights. And I felt like I needed to get back to photographing the city nightlife again. I took a short break for sleep, you know that silly inconvenient thing inbetween being awake.

On this occasion I was not thinking and I forgot to charge my battery, so I got about 30 snaps out of my camera and it died. Go me. There was tons of people, swing dancing in the downcity portion of Providence with a great band. I wish I charged my battery!

This is Courtney Apuzzo and Aaron Nardozza.

Weird that both have two “z’s” in their last name. Cool! They are engaged and have been together for like 3 or 4 years. I forget. But I love them both more than words. I’ve known Courtney’s brother for years because of high school and him being my brother’s friend. I only met Courtney by way of the infamous “Apuzzo Xmas Eve Party”, it results in usually drunk middle-aged women, and the grandmother running around the house with antlers on her head singing Rudolph. No joke.

Aaron proposed this past year and Courtney has been nothing less of ecstatic. This is one of my picks from the engagement portraits I shot last month. We went to Caratunk in Seekonk, and a marina in Barrington, RI and both were great sites. Loved them, Courtney is a ham and Aaron was a sweetheart to shoot. I took a mental-well-needed break from dating post-college. Giving myself time from that chaos I had to get my stuff right first. I started to not believe in love and fate and all that mumbo-jumbo, but these two made me rethink my negative theories.  So perfect, so right…was it fate? Still trying to figure that one out. Still I wonder when my turn will be.

All I know, I need to figure out my big-girl stuff before diving into the wolfpack again. I have to tell myself that everyday. I need a break for my sanity. I bought my domain name, csherlock.com….look out for it.

Steve Perry was right, “Don’t Stop Believin’ “

Just a quick hello. Last week was a crazy one at that. I started pony camp with a few young ones and I was there early mornings and for hours after camp riding and cleaning up after the rugrats. Anywho, before the week of insanity with the kids I went on a mini-vaca to the Falconidge Folk Festival. Its a four-day music venue on a cow farm in Hillsdale, New York. I was there for one night and it was a whirlwind of a trip. Lots of greaaaat food, awesome music and good friends. If we werent trying every ounce of food offered, we were trudging thorugh the mud to get to our tents at the top of a hill. At our campside was a bonfire and about 5 guitars, 12 people and 2 djmbes and someone was constantly plucking the guitar strings.

This was from the band playing at 11:30pm, Ryan Montbleau Band. They are constantly playing in my head now. Check them out. Ryan Montbleau is amazing. I took a long exposure of the stage, crowd and well just the available light. Sitting on a tarp, barefoot with mud to my knees, hand held camera.

So I haven’t updated in a while. Last week was a bit insane with photo work,  fourth of july, family stuff and work work work. Last weekend was a bit of a marathon, Friday I went to Foxwoods in CT for a friend’s grad party, but before that I went to Mystic, CT to have dinner with another friend while I was down there. Saurday was the fourth, and I went to Bristol for such a holiday and sunday I was down in Swansea for a family grad party. I was volunteered to take family portraits that day as well. Which is fine because it was a paying gig and my family is so damn waspy that I wanted to document it anyway. The color palette for the portraits were navy, khaki and white. Those pictures will be coming soon, dont you worry.

This shot was taken in Mystic, CT. I drove in later, like 7pm, my friend was late, so I shot like crazy along the water and draw bridge and downtown. We ate at the infamous Mystic Pizza, with Julia Roberts plastered all over the walls. Then on my way back to my car to go to Foxwoods I stumbled across this little gem of a view. I made sure to fully charge my battery and bring my tripod for this trip. Thankfully, because after this quick night trip I ran out of room on my 2gig memory card.

Tripod ready, setup behind my car on a hill. Big pretty apeture and an exposure of about 2 seconds I believe, which is longer than one would think. I was reflection crazy for this trip, and I looked like a damn tourist, which is cool cause I got a handful of great photos out of this 7 hour vacation from home.

I guess it was about time to post a piece from my senior thesis.

Here is # 8 out of a series of 12 diptychs of Federal Hill, Providence, RI. I know, more Rhode Island, sick of it yet? I’m not. This one I called “Consignments” based off of the drooping banner above the white truck in the first photograph. It’s a consignment store below an aprtment building. But thats all of Federal Hill anyway, small businesses below family apartments.

My entire concept was based from advertising. This entire mile strip of neighborhood is about “Little Italy” and each restaurant and store is lit up at all hours of the night to advertise their goods and their “Italian-ness”. The tacky architecture is mirrored by its neighbors. You have the large, lavish restaurants next to empty lots which are next to a mom-and-pop laundry mat. It’s an odd chemistry this street has. I worked at an art gallery on “the Hill” and I noticed just how outrageous store owners get about their lighting and outdoor decor. There is a standard of asthetics that each new business must follow and there is only so much “Federal Hill-Rhode Island’s Little Italy” memorabilia a store can hold. I guess “Tina’s Jamaican Caribbean” doesn’t quite fit the Italian mystique, what about “Jose Tequila’s”? Hm.

Anywho, here is my favorite segment from my senior thesis. 8 months of hard investigation, money and waking hours when into this. In this particular diptych, in the left panel you see a ghostly figure walking away. In my twelve pieces, this one is the only section with a person in it. And this man saw me photographing his apartment buiilding and walked over to me, the 5’3″ brunette with bangs with a large camera and tripod at 2am on a sunday. I was a bit intimidated to say the least. He asked me harshly, “what the hell are you videotaping?!” That is always the first reaction. I said, I’m taking a photo of this building…he said, “my ugly, shitty  apartment? why would you take a picture of that?!” I said sheepishly, “I think the building is pretty cool looking….” He then walked away into his apartment, and you see I caught him upon entering.

I love the nightlife.
